Park City

OVERVIEW

From boom town to ghost town to ski town, Park City Mountain Resort has endured, and flourished. A blend of old and new coupled with a rich and colorful past has helped shape the laid-back charm indigenous to Park City, a community whose character and personality have been chiseled by 100 years of change. Park City is a place where stately Victorian houses, stained glass windows and crooked miners’ shacks blend graciously with ski runs, restaurants and trendy boutiques.

Located just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City, the town of Park City originally sprung up in 1872 as a mining camp when a rich silver strike was discovered by prospecting soldiers. At one time Park City was the largest silver town in the country with nearly double the present population.

Park City is a magnet for friendly people and the attitude is contagious. The town sees plenty of celebrities and they’re treated in the same down-to-earth manner as other visitors — perhaps that explains why they keep coming back. As one guest remarked, “Park City is world-class without the pretense.”

The 2002 Olympic Winter Games held there were a big success for USA and Winter Sports, and the mountain resort provided an exciting backdrop for the world. Of all the changes that have shaped Park City during the past 120 years, one thing is certain; the future of this thriving western ski town has never looked brighter.
